Activity 1: Inside, Outside – Both Are Fun!

·         better understand key school values of prudence, sincerity, modesty and diligence, care and consideration.

Activity 2: What’s the Weather Like?

Pupils
·         become more aware of and learn more about weather elements: sun, rainy clouds and the wind.
·         learn how to stay safe/protect themselves on sunny days and in thunderstorms.
Develop
·         develop self-control and teamwork through activities.
·         better understand key values of care,  consideration and respect.
·         Process Skills – observing, generating, inferring, evaluating
·         Science – weather phenomena
·         PPT for Lesson 2
·         Bubble bottles (one for each team)
·         Optional: sunblock, hat, clothes with sleeves, sunglasses. raingear
·         No handout
Activity 3:
Green Treasures

Pupils:
·         Will recognise the importance of plants to humans and the Earth.
·         Will discover and learn about how plants are different from each other

·         Self-awareness -  identifying and recognising emotions (joy, beauty of nature)
·         Self management
·         Teamwork

·         Process skills – observing,  comparing, classifying
·         Art – drawing/nature journaling,
·         Science – plants
·         Language –communicating with instructions
·         Health/cleanliness: need to wash their hands after an outdoor activity.





·         Handout 3 (for each pupil)
·         For wet weather: at least 15-20 dried leaves of different shapes.

Activity 4: City Animals

Pupils:
·         learn to observe animals in the school and classify them into 4 main “zones” (in the air, on plants, in the water or on the ground”).
·         Learn respect for life and how to behave properly towards animals.
·         Self-awareness -  identifying and recognising emotions (enjoyment of nature, fear of animals)
·         Self-management
·         better understand key values of care,  consideration and respect.

·         Process skills –   observing,  comparing, classifying
·         Science – diversity of animals/habitats
·         Language: describing animals, feelings
·         Drama: role play

·         Handout 4 (script and action for Rain Tree role play activity)
·         Optional: 1-2 trays, Science Centre Singapore’s  reference booklets: “A Guide to common garden animals” and “A Guide to Urban Creatures ”.

Activity 5: Ready For The Outdoors

Pupils learn
·         To make good decision on what to bring on a fieldtrip
·         How to deal with minor injuries like small cuts and nose bleeds.
·         How to tie a reef knot and use it for daily life.
·         Self awareness
·         Develop self-control and teamwork through activities.
·         Better understand key values of care: caring for others
·         Process skills: decision making
·         Language: describing feelings, giving reasons

·         Fieldtrip item cards (one set for each team e.g. 6 sets)
·         Plasters, tissue paper, antiseptic wash, water,
·         Short ropes (32 pieces)
Activity 6: Neighbourhood “Hike”

Pupils go on a neighbourhood walk to:
·         Develop navigation and map-reading skills.
·         Learn more about facilities for the community: playgrounds, elderly corners, recycling bins, etc. in their neighbourhood, to build rootedness and ownership.
·         To learn safety: traffic safety and fire safety
·         To observe and know about some plants and animals living among us.

Activity 7
My Pasir Ris Park Adventure
·         Explore a larger-scaled, natural habitat and enjoy the outdoor elements there.
·         Apply main knowledge and skills learnt in previous PAL OE Lessons: weather, observing plants, animals, navigation/map-reading skills, how to pack for the trip.
·         Develop positive attitudes towards the outdoors – being comfortable and confident in the outdoors
·         Self-management
·         Teamwork
·         School values, and other valuesL care, consideration and respect
·         Process skills – observing, comparing, classifying
·         Science – diversity of living things, natural habitats
·         Spatial awareness
·         Language – nature journalling
