Goreng Pisang

Goreng Pisang

 小心我们所吃的路边 GORENG PISANG (转载)
PLASTIC GORENG WILL MAKE YOU SICK This is a true story (from my friend).

Mum said my uncle saw it in Tunjang (Kedah) and the pasar malam in Titi Chai Kangar (Perlis) where goreng pisang was sold in the afternoons.  The hawker added a plastic drinking straw into a wok of hot oil and let it melt completely before he started to fry some bananas in the bubbling oil.  This is why some fried bananas and ubi are so crispy... for hours...!!  My uncle asked the hawker about this, but the hawker did not answer him.  When my uncle told my mum about this,  they realised this is how the hawkers ensure that fried food stays crispy for their customers.  My mum said that in Thailand , they do the same thing to keep fried ikan bilis and fried onions crispy, even if left in the open for hours!!  Another time, I was with my family in Cameron Highlands . It was 3:00 pm and we were hanging around the market area, where there were several hawker stalls.  At one of them, there was a big wok of boiling oil with an empty plastic bottle floating in it and slowly melting.  At first I thought it had fallen into the oil accidentally, but then I saw a little girl, about 7-years old, holding a pair of chopsticks and stirring the bottle around in the hot oil. I realised, Oh my God... these people were using melted plastic to fry food, so that the fried snacks would not turn soft when it cooled down later.  Please forward to all your friends... DO NOT EAT CRISPY FRIED SNACKS from the hawkers!!  Even if you don't see them melting the plastic in oil, they might have added the plastic a few hours before.  After all, they keep the black oil for next day's frying as well, to save cost on cooking oil.—

How does haze hurt the body?

Fwd: FW: The BEST WAYS TO PROTECT YOUR KIDNEYS,

The BEST WAYS TO PROTECT YOUR KIDNEYS,

By Dr. Willie T. Ong (Internist and Cardiologist)

Most people know how to protect the heart, but do you know how to care for your kidneys? The kidneys' job is to help remove various toxins (drugs and food wastes), and expel them through the urine.

As we grow older, our kidneys will also start to age. A problem with kidney disease is that majority of patients have no warning symptoms.

Some time ago, we interviewed Dr. Elizabeth Montemayor, a nephrologist at the Philippine General Hospital.

Here are 10 ways to protect your kidneys:

1. Limit your salt intake

Too much salt is not only bad for your blood pressure, it's also bad for your kidneys. Many die of kidney disease, which can be partly attributed to a high salt intake and fondness fo! r fish sauce, soy sauce, plain salt and salted fish. Even instant noodles, chips and nuts are teeming with salt. The problem with salt is that it encourages the body to retain water, and can increase your blood pressure (which damages the kidneys).

2. Don't load up on high protein foods such as meat and steaks

A high protein diet makes the kidneys work twice as hard. Pretty soon, your kidneys could get tired and some of the weaker kidney cells can die. A friendly reminder to people on a high-protein Atkin's Diet or South Beach Diet. The time-tested doctor's advice of moderation in everything will serve you well. Eat a balanced diet of rice, vegetables, fish and fruits and you can't go wrong.

3. Keep your blood pressure at 130/80 or lower
!

If your blood pressure is above 140 over 90, this can cause kidney damage within five years. The kidneys are said to be "happiest" with a blood pressure of 130/80 or lower. To help control your blood pressure, you should limit your salt intake, reduce weight and take medicines for high blood pressure, if needed.

4. Keep your blood sugar below 120 mg/dl

Diabetes and high blood pressure are the two leading causes of kidney failure. A person with uncontrolled diabetes for 5-10 years may develop significant kidney damage. Consult your doctor and keep your blood sugar under control with diet, exercise and maintenance medicines.

5. Drink 8 glasses of water a day

Doctors usually advise people to take in 8 glasses of water a day, but this really depends on your age and condition. If you're sweating a lot and work outdoors, you may need to drink more than 8 glasses a day. However, if you are above 65 years of age, you may do well with just 6 glasses a day. Drinking enough water also prevents the formation of kidney stones.

6. Watch your intake of pain relievers and other drugs

Taking pain relievers like mefenamic acid, ibuprofen and the coxibs (like celecoxib) for a prolonged period of time may cause kidney damage. Because of this, we should limit taking these medicines to only a week, or just take th! em as needed. For those with chronic arthritis, try to look for other ways to relieve the pain such as using a hot water bag, pain reliever ointments, or the safer paracetamol tablet.

7. Be careful with tests and procedures using contrast dyes

Some tests, like CT Scans and MRIs, and angiograms, use a contrast dye which helps doctors delineate the organs better. The problem with such dyes is that they can cause kidney damage. To be safe, I would strongly advise you to consult a kidney specialist before undergoing such procedures.

8. Don't drink too much Vitamin C

Excess vitamin C (ascorbic acid) ! can lead to the formation of kidney stones in predisposed individuals. If you need to take vitamin C, a dose of 500 mg or less is safer.

9. Don't rely on food supplements to protect your kidneys

The above tips are so far the best tips to care for the kidneys.

10. Get a kidney check-up

Simple tests, such as a complete blood count, BUN and creatinin, and a urine analysis are the first screening tests for the kidneys. Finding a trace of protein in the urine can alert the doctor of possible kidney disease.
Bottomline is: Kidney diseases are expensive and difficult to treat. Let's take the necessary steps to protect our kidneys today.

Fwd: FW: The Cockroach Theory For Self Development.

The Cockroach Theory For Self Development.

The Cockroach Theory for Self- Development

At a restaurant, a cockroach suddenly flew from somewhere and sat on a lady.  She started screaming out of fear.  With a panic stricken face and trembling voice, she started jumping, with both her hands desperately trying to get rid of the cockroach.

Her reaction was contagious, as everyone in her group also got panicky.  The lady finally managed to push the cockroach away but ...it landed on another lady in the group.

Now, it was the turn of the other lady in the group to continue the drama.

The waiter rushed forward to their rescue.  In the relay of throwing, the cockroach next fell upon the waiter.

The waiter stood firm, composed himself and observed the behaviour of the cockroach on his shirt.  When he was confident enough, he grabbed it with his fingers and threw it out of the restaurant.

Sipping my coffee and watching the amusement, the antenna of my mind picked up a few thoughts and started wondering, was the cockroach
responsible for their histrionic behaviour?  If so, then why was the waiter not disturbed?  He handled it near to perfection, without any chaos.

It is not the cockroach, but the inability of the ladies to handle the disturbance caused by the cockroach that disturbed the ladies.

I realized that, it is not the shouting of my father or my boss or my wife that disturbs me, but it's my inability to handle the disturbances caused by their shouting that disturbs me.

It's not the traffic jams on the road that disturbs me, but my inability to handle the disturbance caused by the traffic jam that disturbs me.

More than the problem, it's my reaction to the problem that creates chaos in my life.

Lessons learnt from the story:

I understood, I should not react in life.
I should always respond.

The women reacted, whereas the waiter responded.

Reactions are always instinctive whereas responses are always well thought of, just and right to save a situation from going out of hands, to avoid cracks in relationship, to avoid taking decisions in anger, anxiety, stress or hurry.

The Effective Sweet Treat that Relieves Arthritis Pain--ssk

The Effective Sweet Treat that Relieves Arthritis Pain

This is from my Chemist friend in California  !!

 Hi!
For your info
Received this interesting e-mail regarding the  effects of pineapple o relieves arthritis pain.  Worth a try.  Been throwing away the pineapple core which is where the goodness lies.

The Effective Sweet Treat that Relieves Arthritis Pain
This is the best e-mail I have received, I tell you why.
Some of you know that I have osteoarthritis stabalised by knee exercises
and Glucosamine and Controntin for the last 8 years while a few of my peers
had knee replacement during this time. Last November I went to Hanoi Bay
and did quite a bit of climbing that aggravated the pain in my right knee
and started the pain in the left. Still I persisted with my medication and
knee exercises. It gave relieve up to 70%.

One of my favourite fruits is pineapple. I realize that for weeks since my
trip to Hanoi I have not eaten any pineapple. I really missed that so went
out to purchase one. Walloped one big piece heartily. Lo and behold, next
morning when I started my exercises, the pain was nearly gone. There was
around 95% relieve. Thinking it was the benefit of the exercises I
increased the momentum another 5 to 10 minutes.

Later in the day I began to think how could the pain decrease so much
overnight. Aha. only difference was the pineapple that I ate. Yes you
guessed it, I went and walloped some more and obtained more relieve . Back
to before I went to Hanoi Bay. Happy but too shy to tell anyone until my sister rang up to inform of her
back ache and unable to stand straight. Rebuked her for not doing anything
like rubbing ointment or seeing a Dr. Jokingly informed her of my pineapple
experience. Laughingly she said she was going to try that. A week or so
later she came over and proudly showed me that she could walk straight
without any pain. With thumb up she informed that the pineapple worked.

So friends if you or anyone you know have arthritis pain, pineapple is
worth the try. I dare to inform you after receiving this e-mail.

In Christ love,
* The Effective Sweet Treat that Relieves Arthritis Pain*
By Jim Healthy On  October 19th, 2012

Did you know that there are certain kinds of foods that actually help
reduce or even stop arthritis pain?
These "superfoods" are usually easy to find and inexpensive.
Of all the foods that help fight against arthritis -- delicious, sweet
pineapple comes up close to the top of the list.

*THE SWEET PAIN RELIEVER

For generations, people around the world have used fresh pineapple to ease
their arthritis inflammation.
Loaded with joint-protecting vitamin C, pineapple is undoubtedly a superior
arthritis-healing food.
Its anti-inflammatory ingredient -- bromelain -- is so potent that many
boxers drink the juice after fights to heal their bruises.
A 1960 study compared boxers who took bromelain with those receiving a
placebo. In just four days, an amazing 78% of those taking bromelain were
inflammation-free, while only 14% of the control group had recovered.

Other than bromelain, pineapple also contains manganese, which strengthens
bones and protects joints.
Here are 5 reasons you should be indulging in this delicious fruit if you
struggle with joint pain and arthritis:

*Reason #1: Joint Protection*

Higher intake levels of the antioxidant vitamin C is essential for people
with arthritis...And just one cup of pineapple has a whopping 94% of the
recommended daily allowance (RDA)!
Research published in the Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases showed that
vitamin C-rich foods protect against inflammatory polyarthritis, a type of
rheumatoid arthritis in which two or more joints are affected.
If you have osteoarthritis, you may be concerned by warnings that you
should not increase your vitamin C intake. But know that those warnings are
based on a 2004 study on guinea pigs!
Studies on humans show vitamin C actually reduces pain, cartilage loss and
disease progression.

*Reason #2: Healthier Joint Tissue*

Pineapple is a great source of the trace mineral manganese.
Manganese is absolutely essential for building healthy joint tissue and
dense bones. One cup of pineapple provides 128% of the RDA for manganese.
Research shows that manganese tackles free radicals that can damage joint
cartilage.
Tip: It's best to eat your pineapple raw. Fruit skewers alternating fresh
pineapple chunks with strawberries is a great way to do that. Grilled and
cooked pineapple is extraordinarily tasty too.

*Reason #3: Smoother Joint Movement*

Pineapple's enzymes literally clean up "rusty" joints. When you eat
pineapple on an empty stomach, the enzymes go right to work on your joints.
Tip: If you eat pineapple with other foods, the enzymes divert their
activity to digesting the rest of your meal instead of the gunk in your
joints.
So keep pineapple around for between-meal snacks. Juice the hard inner core
as well to take advantage of the concentrated bromelain located there.

*#4: Pain Relief*

For optimal arthritis pain-relief, eat fresh pineapple. The bromelain in
pineapple is destroyed by heat, so fresh pineapple will give you the most
benefit.
Frozen pineapple retains active enzymes, but canned fruit and commercially
processed juice don't provide the anti-inflammatory benefit of fresh fruit.
It's important to note bromelain causes anti-clotting activity...
So you should consult with your physician before combining pineapple with
blood-thinning medications such as warfarin (Coumadin), heparin, or aspirin.
Tip: If the fruit needs to ripen, keep it on your kitchen counter for a
couple days. You'll know it's sweet and ready to eat when the bottom
softens a bit.

*Reason #5: Protection from Inflammation*
Pineapple's bromelain halts inflammation. The sulfur-based enzyme bromelain
in fresh pineapple is one of the best-researched natural anti-inflammatory
agents around.
Bromelain clobbers inflammatory agents that trigger joint pain and
cartilage degeneration.
A 2006 study cited in Clinical and Experimental Rheumatology found that
supplemental bromelain is effective in easing discomfort from hip arthritis.
The Arthritis Foundation stated that pineapple's bromelain produces effects
comparable to NSAIDs for relieving pain and inflammation.
UK researchers reviewed ten studies on osteoarthritis and bromelain. They
found that every single one confirmed bromelain's benefits.

Tip: Most of the bromelain in pineapples is found in the core and the stem.
So don't throw away that tough, fibrous core!

Just chop it up, throw it in a blender with some water and pulse to convert
it to juice.
